Management Support Officer (Hybrid + Benefits)

The Pensions Ombudsman has an exciting opportunity for a Management Support Officer to join our team based in Canary Wharf, where we currently operate an agile working policy.  You will be working part-time (pro-rata, 3 days p/w) on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2026 (with the potential to convert to a permanent contract) and will receive a competitive salary of £35,961 to £42,579 per annum pro rata. Who are we? 

As a totally independent body, not part of the pensions industry or government, we investigate and make decisions when someone has been unable to resolve a complaint about how their pension has been managed. Our service is free, but we have legal powers to make decisions that are final, binding, and enforceable in court. 

Our work can be challenging and high-profile, delivering a fair outcome for the individual and highlighting where the pensions industry can improve. Focusing on the facts, we must be balanced, fair and totally independent. 

Purpose of the role 

The postholder will join the legal team at an exciting time as TPO undergoes transformational change through an operating model review. The role will support the Legal Team Manager on a variety of tasks, projects and services to ensure there is consistent and high-quality delivery of legal services to the wider organisation.  As a key member of the Pensions Ombudsman’s in-house Legal Team, they will be pivotal in day-to-day operations, supporting senior members of staff and working cross-functionally to manage and deliver legal initiatives, important management information and insight.  

The Management Support Officer will also deputise, provide support and undertake activities on behalf of the Legal Team Manager where necessary.  

The Management Support Officer will be accountable and report to the Legal Team Manager. 

Key duties  

  • Provide administrative support to the Legal Team Manager for performance reporting, induction, probation, and appraisal cycles. 

  • Provide governance and secretariat support to senior legal management team, including diary management, meeting preparation, drafting and collating of papers.   

  • Support the Legal Team Manager, and Data Protection Officer when appropriate, in the management of information assets to ensure information is accurate and up to date. 

  • Work with the MI Analyst and the Legal Team Manager to prepare and track our performance data to ensure directorate, Executive and Board reporting is meaningful, accurate and effective. 

  • Support through project management, Legal-wide initiatives (such as significant change, recruitment, delivering strategic objectives, ad hoc projects). 

  • Be responsible for developing and embedding a review cycle for documents owned by the Legal Team. 

  • Be an active member of cross-organisation groups as required/directed by the Legal Team Manager. 

  • Working flexibly across the organisation as necessary and any other duties that may reasonably be required. 

  • Deliver in house training to address identified skills gaps.
